As the Old Bhoys hit the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the season is in full swing. The Amateur Cup run continues, with a scheduled Region 2 Semifinal clash against RWB Adria in Chicago finalized for early June; the UPSL Midwest Conference South Division standings (below) reflect a solid rebound for the Bhoys following a slow start. Following a season opening loss to the very same RWB Adria (5-0), and dropping the UPSL home opener to Joliet (4-3), the Bhoys recorded their first UPSL league win against St. Louis Maritsa FC, shutting out the visitors from Missouri 4-0. After their first league victory at home, the squad headed to Springfield, IL to face Springfield FC, leaving town with all three points, 2-1. With two straight wins, and a trip to the Corn Crib to face FC Diablos in Bloomington-Normal, IL, the Bhoys are working to keep momentum to put pressure back on Joliet and Adria for the division. The current divisional table features Joliet Soccer United in front with 12 points from a total of 15 available; however, Adria has two matches at hand, and only trails Joliet by three. The Bhoys hold the 3rd spot in the Division with six points from a possible 12, as Maritsa, although level on points and goal difference, is just behind due to goals for at this point. However, Maritsa does have a match in hand at this point in the season. On zero points so far, FC Diablos are 5th on goal difference over Springfield FC.

Your favorite Bhoys are still alive in the USASA National Amateur Cup, following a dominating performance in a Region 2 quarterfinal match against Michigan Stars of the NPSL. The Bhoys took the match 3-0, behind a brace from Yan Souza in his debut for the all reds. Following Adria’s 3-1 victory over AC Schwaben’s, the Chicago-based club drew the semifinal match at home, and will host (for a second time this short season) the Bhoys June 5th, at Hales Franciscan High School. While the Bhoys are keen to avenge the UPSL league opener, Adria is looking to advance to the Region 2 finals and keep on track to make a run at the USASA National Amateur Cup championship.

The CIASA season is also in full swing, with the Bhoys enjoying a bit of a break in the latter stages of May in this competition. The standings for the Men’s Premier Division is as follows:

With at least five matches left for each team, there’s still all to play for in the Premier Division for the CIASA. Up next for the Bhoys in this competition is UB40 Young Guns, to be played at 1:00 PM at Cardinal Ritter Stadium on June 2nd. This will kick off four consecutive Sunday matches for the Bhoys in this comp; with both BRSC and Boomers on the schedule.

Following the weekend break, the Bhoys play a hefty stretch of 3 matches in 4 days, starting Thursday night at the Corn Crib in a UPSL matchup with FC Diablos before traveling to the greater-Cincinnati area to take on Cincinnati Dutch Lions (of USL League 2) in a friendly and wrap up the week with a CIASA match against UB 40 Young Guns.

Away from the pitch, the Bhoys still have plenty of available merchandise at their club shop. Check out the website at www.oldbhoyssc.com and click on the link for the club shop. Although summer is upon us, scarves are still available, with a new design for a lighter-weight scarf. Plenty of other merch is available, such as t-shirts, hoodies and drinkware.

As I close another post, on behalf of Old Bhoys HQ, we continue to want to engage with any and all organizations, businesses and individuals to band together in bringing high-level amateur soccer to Indy as sponsors and partners for the rest of the 2019 season (and beyond!). Through soccer, we (Old Bhoys and Indianapolis) want to connect. Whether it’s talking European transfer window rumors, reveling in Indy Eleven’s recent performance, or trying to provide opportunity for the youth player, soccer is an important part of the city and how soccer-minded folks live daily. It’s awesome. And it’s awesome to be a part – however small – of what makes the Indy area such an awesome place to be. We, and soccer at this level, thrives and depends on this relationship. If you want to help, want your company logo on our gear, or believe in what we’re trying to accomplish at Old Bhoys, drop us a line: oldbhoyshq@gmail.com or via twitter @OldBhoysSC. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can! We’d love to be able to give back in a relevant and meaningful way that raises interest in your organization as it does ours.

As always, COYOB!
